Are you looking for a sweet and easy treat for giving (or eating) this season?
Here’s a fun idea for you that comes from my lovely sister-in-law Jen:
Yes, I know. They are store bought cookies. But they aren’t going to stay plain old Oreos, even if they are mint. (You can use regular Oreos, but Cool Mint is festive and my personal favorite for flavor.)
Oh yah baby, we are dipping those Oreos in chocolate.
Choose a chocolate for dipping to get the best results. We used A’peels, which is an easy to work with dipping chocolate from Guittard. Any wafer chocolate suitable for dipping will work. The chocolate was melted carefully in the microwave. The microwave is a fast way to melt the chocolate, but only set 30 seconds or less at a time and stir. You don’t want to overheat your chocolate in the microwave.
Lay them out to cool on parchment or wax paper. But first, while the little dippers are still wet, give them a festive look with a few sprinkles.
Here’s few in milk chocolate too. Yum, I think these are my favorite.
It doesn’t take long for them to cool and harden. Then they are easy to toss in a bag and give them away… but not before you eat a few of course.
They are simply delightful, fast and festive.
These are soooo pretty! I would be afraid to eat one (ok, not really). I’m toying with the idea of participating in a cookie exchange. I have a feeling these would be a show stopper.
What a great idea!! I would love to try those… I will have to see if I can find that type of chocolate here in Belize.
You can do the same with regular Oreos which come with many more in each package. My husband just bought me a package of the dipped mint oreos the last time he went shopping to surprise me. They are really good but wow, only 12 to an entire package? In my candy making that I do each year, I have dipped Oreos in the past and because the special Oreos they sell such as the mint ones have so many less in the packages I buy the regular Oreos. I use LoAnn Peppermint oil (use this VERY sparingly as it is strong) and flavor the melted chocolate I use to dip. They taste the same and I get many more for the money.
Love this idea, Callie! We shared it on our blog today as part of our Christmas Craft Roundup! http://bit.ly/GBPcraftychristmas
Just found your beautiful website and these oreo’s will be made this Christmas (unashamedly). Thank you.
I just found this site while visiting my daughter in Calif. for Thanksgiving Holidays. I use Ritz Crackers with Peanut Butter in the middle and then using a toothpick, dip in white morsels. They freeze well—bought the chocolate after Halloween and saved some money.
