I’ve been on the go with my sewing class and needed a safe place to keep my needles.
The solution was this cute little Matchbook Needle Keeper. It’s so easy to make, it only takes a few minutes.
Here’s how to make one:
Cut a piece of scrapbook cardstock weight paper 5 3/4″ x 2″.
Using a bone folder or comparable tool, fold the bottom up 3/4″ and fold the top down 2 1/4″
It should look like this:
Next cut a piece of felt 2 1/2″ x 2″. I used wool felt.
And staple the felt into the “matchbook” needle keeper.
Just add needles. It shuts just like a matchbook.
Like many of my favorite projects, it was quick and easy… and used scraps from other projects… so it was essentially free.
I just love when form meets function.
What a great idea!
Once again, a darling solution to a problem.
great idea :)
Love this!!! I’ve been wanting something like this but never have put together the book style ones that I see everyone making. This looks easier & more my style. Thank you!!!
What a fabulous idea – think I’m going to have to make some of these, they’re great!
Awesome idea, Calli!!! TFS! Hugs, Sabrina

[…] Calli from Make It Do shows how to make a quick & easy needle book. It’s made from cardstock folded up like a matchbookk, but instead of matches inside you’ll find a place to put a handful of needles. Brilliant!! Go to the tutorial. […]
That’s so awesome!!! So much better than the random scrap of felt I carry my needles in!

you can also use floss containers and then you have floss to sew with too!

Completely cute. Thanks :)
You could also use this for dangly earrings.
Thank you for this – I am making 900 of these to give away at shop hop.

Brilliant! So simple but perfect for the job. Thanks
Such a cute idea! Why wouldn’t I want to keep my needles in here all of the time? They would be so happy to rest here. :)
Very clever and functional too!
Am going to make up several of these for specialty needles. It will make them easier to find. Thanks!
I love this! I never have a decent way to carry needles for small projects. Thanks for the great idea.
What a great tutorial. Thank you for sharing. I’ll be making one soon and putting a shout out on my blog.
[…] Matchbook Needle Book from Make it Do. As presented it is a good project for Brownies to do, but it could be souped up with a jewelry sized baggie with some buttons, maybe some thread in it. […]
Hello,
made another batch today. Thank you!
Beatrice.
Very smart way to keep needles and good use of leftover paper.
