Strip Quilt from Scraps

My mom has been working on a new quilt for the last few weeks and I love it so much, I asked her if I could share it.

Over the last many years, when she finishes a project, she cuts some of the scraps up into 1-1/2″ to 2″ strips, in varying lengths.

She’s saved them for a rainy day.

In May it must have have rained, since she pulled out her scraps and started a quilt.

The widest rows are about 16″ wide and the narrowest are about 5″ wide.  I love how a few sections run the wrong way.  And a few rows have narrow rows through a section.

She’s been hand quilting it before she goes to bed each night.  It should be done in a few days.

When my husband saw it, he said, “Oh man, that is an ugly quilt.”

I think it’s one of my favorites that my mom has made.

She has enough scraps to make a few more quilts, so I may be making an ugly quilt just for me.  And he won’t be allowed to use it.

  4. What a great idea for scraps! I love the look of this quilt, and you’re right… You should totally make an “ugly” quilt and NEVER let your husband use it! :) That’s what I’d do too! Thanks for sharing this (and thanks to your mom as well.)
