Strip Quilt from Scraps

My mom has been working on a new quilt for the last few weeks and I love it so much, I asked her if I could share it.

Over the last many years, when she finishes a project, she cuts some of the scraps up into 1-1/2″ to 2″ strips, in varying lengths.

She’s saved them for a rainy day.

In May it must have have rained, since she pulled out her scraps and started a quilt.

The widest rows are about 16″ wide and the narrowest are about 5″ wide.  I love how a few sections run the wrong way.  And a few rows have narrow rows through a section.

She’s been hand quilting it before she goes to bed each night.  It should be done in a few days.

When my husband saw it, he said, “Oh man, that is an ugly quilt.”

I think it’s one of my favorites that my mom has made.

She has enough scraps to make a few more quilts, so I may be making an ugly quilt just for me.  And he won’t be allowed to use it.

  1. What does your husband know anyhow? This quilt is lovely and special because your mother made it. Cherish it. What a great way to get rid of scraps.

  2. What a great idea for scraps! I love the look of this quilt, and you’re right… You should totally make an “ugly” quilt and NEVER let your husband use it! :) That’s what I’d do too! Thanks for sharing this (and thanks to your mom as well.)

  3. It is such a pretty and happy quilt. And a fun way to remember all the things you have made. I can’t wait to see yours!

  4. Perfect comment for the beautiful “ugly quilt” – and for your husband! I think I’ll make one for myself – I can’t wait to hear what MY husband has to say!!!

  5. Men say the worst things…and what does he know about quilts? How offensive!!! Send him out to the man cave or something.
