A Good Scare

ichabod

Are you looking for ways to entertain the family this Halloween?  Why not scare the daylights out of the kiddies?

The other night we made caramel apples with the kids.  We used Honeycrisp apples and rolled them in melted caramel and then into crushed Butterfinger bars.  They were so good!

Then we popped a big bowl of popcorn and snuggled in to watch the old Disney classic, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.

That movie will scare the pants off you, let me tell you.  And we all loved every minute of it.  Ba, ba, ba, boom… Bing Crosby’s voice is awesome.  The animation is timeless.

I don’t remotely remember ever seeing the Mr. Toad part when I was a kid.  But the Headless Horseman… him I didn’t forget.  He’s just absolutely frightening and wonderful.

A scary movie night is great “Make it Do” entertainment this Halloween.  Now if the kids wake me up with nightmares, I guess I asked for it.

Cascade Springs

One of our favorite family traditions is visiting Cascade Springs in the Autumn to take pictures in the leaves.

We have visited Cascade Springs every year since Ben was born and I love to look through the progression of our family through the pictures.  It was one of the first outings we took our girls on when they were finally well enough to get out the year they were born.  We also found our home that we live in now when we detoured after that visit.  Cascade Springs holds a special place in our heart.

Here’s a few highlights from our visit this past weekend:

I love the Maples in all their Autumn glory.

Ben spent his time trying to climb trees and turning the tripod into a gun.  He also spent a fair amount of time trying to catch a fish with his bare hands leaning over the boardwalks that span the Springs.

We’ve posed in this tree every year for the past 9 years.   I love that somethings stay the same.

I was happy to get a good shot with my girls.  Oh the Maples… it’s hard to get a bad shot with the Maples as a backdrop.

Going to Cascade Springs reminded me how important it is to connect with nature.   As we drove up the canyon… my worries and cares seem to fade away and I felt renewed.

I hope our family can keep going to Cascade Springs every year until I’m too old to make the short walk…. like maybe when I’m 97.
