Holiday Trip Around the World
This holiday weekend my husband and kiddos have been obsessed playing a new video game together.
Which happily has given me time for my own obsessions.
I started a new embroidery which I’m totally in love with.
And I since there has been so much lovely inspiration all over the quilty blogospere, I jumped aboard the Scrappy Trip Around the World party. Better late than never, right?
Now I get why everyone seems to be getting their quilts done so quickly. A trip around the world is so fast and fun.
And yes, completely addicting.
Part of the addiction is that I’m loving the colors and fabrics I’m using. They are mostly scraps… and a few new fabrics I picked up last week.
Most of my fabrics are 30’s reproductions, with a few Denise Schmidts, some Lecien Old New, and other scraps thrown in.
I’m still debating how many blocks to make, but I suspect I won’t mind making this a bigger quilt.
If you haven’t started your own trip and want to… I used the wonderful Quiltville tutorial found here.
Now if you’ll excuse me while I finish drying my eyes after last night’s Downton Abbey episode.
I’ve decided that Mr. Julian Fellowes is a bit sadistic. I mean, I understand the why, but the when? That was just mean…
Sweet Dreams Quilt
I’ve shared a few progress posts of my half-square triangles on point quilt, here and here. But I’ve never shared a photo of the finished quilt.
This past week I received a package in the mail with the latest issue of the new magazine Quilt it… Today.
Inside is a wonderful feature of my quilt…
Oh my, how I love the cozy bed!
After some debate, I ended up hand quilting this quilt… in the ditch creating diagonal squares. I intended to quilt across to make triangles, but I could never wrestle it away from my family for long enough to work on it more.
Hand quilting was definitely the way to go. The feel of a hand-quilted quilt is SO much softer and more cozy than a machine-quilted quilt. Combined with the wonderful flannel backing, the Sweet Dreams Quilt is big and soft and perfect for snuggling under. It is by far the most loved quilt I’ve ever made.
If you’ve not seen the new magazine Quilt it… Today. You need to check it out. I am truly honored to be featured in this awesome new magazine. It is full of wonderful quilt patterns, inspiration, and great quilting tips.
If you’d like to order a subscription to Quilt it… Today, it is truly a bargain at $12.95 a year for 6 magazines. You can check out their website here for more information. You can order a subscription online here or send a check to:
