Mother’s Day Wrap Up
Yesterdays Mother’s Day was so lovely. I was thoroughly spoiled.
The only thing I wanted/hoped for and it was a TALL order: a clean car.
When my kids asked me what I wanted I said “My car cleaned and for you to be kind to each other.”
It was then that I realized I was turning into my mother. I always hoped my mom would want something fancy for Mother’s Day when I was a child… but she never did. She would say, “A clean house and for you all to get along.” “Can’t we all just get along?” Do we all turn into our mother eventually?
Saturday afternoon I was busy working on the gift for my Mother-in-law and noticed the house and yard had gotten awfully quiet.
That’s because the whole clan was out busy cleaning my car. The amount of stuff I had collected in it was mind boggling… staggering. I wish I has a picture. But then I could have been blackmailed with it. Granola bar wrappers, spilled potting soil, coupons and receipts in the door pockets just for starters. There was even clothing under the seats from when then the kids had to change on the go from soccer uniforms to baseball or dance.
On my honor I will try to keep it clean from now on. I know, I know, it’s a pie crust promise.
But I can’t tell you how nice it was to climb into a clean car on Sunday morning to head out to breakfast with my family.
Did you notice the photo of my lovely magnolia in bloom? That photo was taken on April 24th, 2009. But yesterday, just in time for Mother’s Day my magnolia started blooming this year. It puts it in perspective what a late spring we are having. I wanted to get out an photograph it yesterday afternoon… but it was raining.
My flowering quince started blooming this weekend too. Everything is soooo late and green this year.
The rain just keeps coming… and with it the threat of flooding. My heart goes out to all those in the flood zones, here and throughout the country.
The other fun thing I got yesterday was one of these. It’s called a Tubtrug. I’m sure you’ve seen them before… but I hadn’t until I came across them and picked up one for my Mom’s birthday in March.
I can envision 100 and 1 uses for it, from laundry to gardening. It’s funny how something so humble, yet useful and well made can make me happy.
All in all it was a perfect Mother’s Day and a much needed break from a very busy few weeks.
I’m glad you had a good Mother’s Day! I think the blossoms on you Quince tree are so beautiful. What a lovely color! I had to google it because I had never heard of such a thing! What does the fruit taste like? They look like pears. I live in Texas and we need rain desperately. Its so dry and brown in some parts. Enjoy you greenness and late spring for me! It’s already been in the 100’s several times here this year!
I’ve heard about the drought in Texas. It seems so unfair to have flooding in one spot and drought in another. I’ll pray a little (or a lot of) rain comes your way. As for my Quince, I’m sorry to say mine is just an ornamental shrub and produces no edible fruit. But it looks nice in the spring, so it’s a keeper!

Michelle left a great tip/comment about the baskets being at Walmart. I looked when I was there and saw that they have them at the Walmart by my home. There were hard to find… I had to ask and found them out in the garden area. They are a great price at $5 and looked only slightly different than mine. My husband bought my basket at a nearby nursery and paid more.
Last year I bought some Tubtrug-type buckets at Walmart. I bought 6 – it wasn’t enough. They have all been stolen and distributed around the yard and shed. When I buy more this year I am going to padlock them to the wall – then I’ll know where to find them!
