My One Little Word – 2011
It’s the New Year and that means I’ve been thinking about my one little word.
Two years ago, I was inspired by Ali Edwards to choose “One Little Word” for the New Year instead of writing a long list of resolutions which I probably wouldn’t keep.
Like the last two years, I feel like this year’s word picked me. Sometime in December I started thinking about words and when I thought of this one, it drove all other words from my mind.
Just like my past two words, I know my one little word will have surprises in store for me if I focus on it.
If you want to be happy, be.
~Leo Tolstoy
be here
be content
be happy
be focused
be there
be me
So you’ll be having a be attitude year! Very cool!
My word for 2011 is Grace.
I hadn’t ever heard of this before but this year it seems so many of my blogging friends are choosing a word! Be is a good one.
Mine was supposed to be Inner Tranquility. So far I’m thinking I better choose another word!
Great word, and a great song came to mind “Let it Be”. Good luck, good health and happiness for the coming year. Dianne. P.S. I love your blog.
I love the word you chose. It almost makes me want to change mine. I picked “order” for this year. I feel like you did that the word picked me. I wanted something more lovely, but order it is. I think it will bring me surprises too. I am beginning to realize that the order I need to understand is not just about organization, but mostly about putting the most important things first, especially the things that aren’t visible, like love, listening and being present.
Thanks for sharing all these great recipes! I’ve started a new cooking blog myself and would love any feedback or comments you can give, so please be sure to check out The Savvy Kitchen at http://www.savvykitchen.blogspot.com. I look forward to continuing reading your blog in 2011!
I love this! I think that to learn to “BE” in the moment is what it’s all about!
Love the concept of one word… Although I made a bit of a list of resolutions this year one of them was themed around the word “CHOOSE” because it can preface so many things much like your word “BE” – I CHOOSE my reaction, my mood, my outlook and therefore I can choose to be happy, to find the positives and as Ann above me says to choose to be in the moment – it’s the moments that make the memories, so we really must choose to be in the moment!
Come by and say hi if you get a chance!

The Quick Unpick
I had trouble finding just one word that encompassed all I wanted it to be. (Come to think of it, “be” is pretty darned good.)
Then I was reminded of football player Eric LeGrand and how his team, family, and community have unified their efforts to help him under the word “Believe.”
There’s my word.
Believe: in goodness, in progress, in myself, in others.
Thank you for inspiring me to search for a word.
Hi – I just found your blog a few weeks ago and wanted to share that I have had a similar thought, although with a little different inspiration. I went to Auburn University, and this year the coach made the football team’s theme “ALL IN”. Just the other night as I was trying to fall asleep, I felt very convicted about how few things I am really ALL IN to. Including spending time with my kids. Half the time I’m looking at my iphone while I should be playing with them. So I’m going to try to be more intentional about being ALL IN with whatever I’m doing and whoever I’m with. Thanks!
