Easy New Year’s Treats
Here are two treats that are so quick and easy you are going to love making them for your New Year’s Celebration… or game night or any other party. They are also so yummy your family and guests will love them too. They might even think you were slaving in the kitchen for hours! And what they don’t know won’t hurt them.
The first is made from Fillo (Phyllo) Cups. You can buy them just as you see them, pre-formed and pre-baked.
Fill them with a small amount of raspberry jam (less is better.) Or any other preserves that you love.
Cut small squares of Brie cheese. I remove the white rind, even though it’s edible, as the kids get a bit worried about the “mold.” Lay the cheese on top of the preserves in the cups.
Put them into a 350 degree oven for about 8 minutes. Allow to cool to room temperature and serve. They taste as good as they look.
This next treat came from a friend of my mom’s. She brought them to her quilt group this month and they were a big hit.
Start with Pretzel Snaps and Rolos candies (chocolate covered caramel candies). Place the Rolo in the center of the Pretzel Snaps and place in a 350 degree oven for 3 minutes.
When they come out of the oven, allow to cool for a few minutes then press a pecan (or nut of choice) into the center. Now allow to set up until firm. I needed to use a spatula to loosen them from the tray and place them on my serving plate.
They taste like a cross between a chocolate covered pretzel and a chocolate turtle and will disappear faster than you can make them… and that’s fast.
Happy New Year’s Eve to you all!
I just had some of the turtle pretzels this month and they are delicious. Haven’t made them yet, but they are yummy.
Both of those look spectacular!! I’ll definitely be trying those out. Thanks.
I like the idea of portioning out the brie this way. It tends to go so fast. I’m filling similar cups tonight with a shrimp spread. I might have to make these up too! thanks
I’ve used caramel kisses to make the turltes too. Thanks for reminding me how to make these.
I just finished making little carrot cake cups and cheddar bites, but with the filo in the freezer and some Jarlsberg, I might try the first one, too, for my own spin. Yum..
These treats look yummy. I like your blog so much I’ve added you to my blogroll. :-)
Oh, those turtles look amazing! And so easy, too. I’ll definitely be linking. Can’t wait to try it!
Oh my goodness do those pretzels look yummy!!! Just wanted to say thanks for all the wonderful ideas you’ve shared throughout the year – I always enjoy visiting your blog!! Hope you have a wonderful new year – many blessings to you and your family.
Thanks for the new recipes. I’m definetly going to try the brie and preserves. I tried your Ginger Snap cookie recipe and thanks to you and this recipe, I’ve probably gained another couple of pounds. Seriously, this is the best Ginger Snap recipe I’ve tried and will replace my others. Thanks again. P.S. – your pumpkin bread is great too!
I’ll bet those little tartlette’s would be yummy with the pomegranate jelly I bought in Santa Clara!
You have a great blog here, Happy New Year!
We made the turtles last night. They are so delish!!!! Thanks for sharing the recipe. mmmmm…
Three words: yum, yum, yum.
I have just begun hearing about those turtle this holiday season! For years, we’ve made something similar using Hershey Kisses and peanut M&M’s. Soooo Yummy! :)
PS. Cute blog…KUTGW!!!!
These both look great! I didn’t see this post in time for this New Year’s, but I’ve bookmarked this post for future parties. Thanks!
How clever! Thanks for sharing! I can’t wait for a chance to try these out :)
