Morning Walks

IMG_6035

A true friend is someone who thinks that you are a good egg even though he knows that you are slightly cracked. -Bernard Meltzer

Since school started last week, my friends and I wave goodbye to the disappearing bus and then we head out on a morning walk.  The mornings have been so lovely and cool.

And being that we are women let loose of the kids (well at least the one’s that listen in on conversations… my friends have babes in strollers) we love to talk on our walk… about good books or movies, troubles (and joys) of motherhood, life, death,  stupid things we’ve done and just about everything else in between.  And with each other, we can truly be ourselves.

We try to walk fast enough to work up a sweat and we pick a route with hills to climb. (And even when we are out of breath, we can still carry on the conversation.)

This is one of the best parts of my day.  I came home thinking how grateful I am for great friends and how glad I am to have such good, strong women in my life…

  • What an inspiring post! Hooray for you and your awesome mama friends :-)

  • What a lovely post. I have recently moved and have many days where I terribly miss the mamas that were part of my circle back home. I am working on forming a new circle and I fantasize about moments like this!

  • Mama, just hang in there… when I moved to our home 6 1/2 years ago, we were moving to a new town about 40-45 minutes from friends and family. Not a far distance, but with 2 babies and a toddler… two whom needed medical equipment, it might as well been 450 miles. I didn’t know anyone and I couldn’t go anywhere to meet anyone. I remember dreaming of just going out on a morning walk with a friend, and forgetting for moment about the challenging day ahead. But that friend and walk didn’t happen in those days. It took time, my twins grew up and got healthier and I was able to do more and meet people. Maybe that’s why those walks are all the more lovely to me now, I remember the great lack of them.

The friends and all that goes with them will come in time and you will love them both all the more for once having gone without them. best wishes, Calli

  • Erin:

Those walks remind me how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful place surrounded by friends. Thanks for letting this cripple join in! I look forward to many more!
