Rocky Mountain High

Barns_grand_tetons

Well friends, I’m headed for the Grand Tetons.  And I can’t get that John Denver song out of my head…

“Coming home to a place he’d never been before…”

I’ve gone to the Tetons on vacation almost every year of my life… and there is something about those mountains that just makes me feel like I’m coming home… like I belong there.

So I’m off to hike a few beautiful trails, float down the Snake River, and hopefully catch a Cutthroat or a Rainbow or two.  I hope the mosquitoes don’t eat me alive.  I really hope I see a bear.  I hope the kids get good and dirty.  I hope I have a chance to read my book by the banks of the river.  I know I will enjoy a few days of being unplugged.

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings.
Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees.
The winds will blow their own freshness into you…
while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.

-John Muir

See you next week!

I love your blog! You are living the way I am trying to live, too! But you put it into words and pictures beautifully! Thanks for the inspiration!

  • Have a lovely trip! We’ve been up in the mountains for the past week and a half (with Internet & lap top)…and will miss the mountain air, pine trees, and smores around the camp fire goodness.

I have to share a story. My husband and I live in California with our three beautiful girls, but we were married in Wisconsin where his family lives.

We decided to drive out and back for the wedding. On the way out we took the quickest route, but on the way back we took the more scenic one. We must have misread the directions because Wyoming (where we were) was not very scenic.

We almost cut south through Colorado and back the way we came. What stopped us was Mt. Moran in the Grand Tetons. Neither of us had been there and since Moran is his (and my) last name we had to press on.

We did not stay long, but WOW was it ever worth it. For those of you who are unaware of the mountains’ names, Mt. Moran is the one in the picture at the top of this page just right of the center…the tallest one. We have beautiful pictures and will be taking our girls with us next time. I look forward to exploring. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.

God’s earth is so beautiful…so worth exploring and just to be still in. Glory to our Lord!
