Is it a Babushka?
Update: I’ll be posting the Babushka Tutorial late Monday afternoon for those who are interested. I’m off to Cub Scout Camp at the crack of dawn this morning… and will be putting up the tutorial when I get home. Wish me luck! I’ll count camp a success if we all have fun, and nobody gets a tick.
My mom always called this little style of kerchief a babushka…
I call it cute as a button. I also call it a lifesaver for summer hair.
Running through the sprinkler, playing hopscotch in the breeze, rolling down the grassy hill… all the activities of summer leave my girl’s hairdos much to be desired.
That’s OK. Throw on a babushka, and you’re ready to go and looking darling.
This morning I tried my hand at a making a babushka, and this was the results.
I wanted it to be easy for the girls to put on by themselves, so there are no ties… but a covered elastic in the back.
This first version was trial and error. I made a few mistakes, and learned a thing or two.
Monday I’ll be posting a tutorial… with all the proverbial wrinkles ironed out.
This babushka is so easy-peasy to make, you’ll want to make more than one. I think I may even end up making a few for myself.
Why should the girls have all the fun?
Too cute!! I just recently started following your blog and love it! This is such a pretty kerchief (and a cute model to boot!) and I can’t wait for the tutorial! Have a great weekend!
I need this tutorial! I tried to make one about a month ago. My attempt was a disaster. Maybe I can rescue it by following your directions. I’ve been tying on a scarf but it’s silky & falls out. Thank you for doing this!!!
My first comment on your blog, and I have been following for over a year! Love it!
Having lived in Russia for 18 months, a Babushka is a Russian Grandma.
And yes, most of these grandmas wear silk type scarves over their heads, like this: http://www.sevenforums.com/attachments/chillout-room/27960d1252926605-100-year-old-pics-russia-siberia-russian-babushka.jpg
Your “babushka” is VERY cute!
That is so cute! The “Babushka” is the granny wearing the scarf! So now your cute little girl is a Babushka! LOL
Cute! And the model is precious! Love that smile!!
What a brilliant idea to put elastic in the back! I will be waiting for the tutorial!
Can’t wait for the tutorial! We have major “summer-hair” issues around here. :)
I just linked you on my craft blog! Go check it out! littlecraftylane.blogspot.com and remember to “follow” me!
Babushka in English has got lots of meanings, though it is Russian word, and in Russian it has got only one meaning. I wrote a few words about that in my blog
