With temperatures this weekend hitting record lows, hoovering delightfully in the 70’s, I could not wait to get out into the garden and get as much done before August weather comes back with a vengeance. Of course, I brought the troops with me to help with the weeding.
But Ben thinks it’s really hard to weed when there is a Praying Mantis’ in the garden. He discovered quickly that they pinch… so he decided it was fun to watch from a few feet away as it climbed around on a branch.
Ben found out it’s impossible to weed after finding a Katydid in the garden. That katydid was so entertaining… he wanted to let it crawl around on him for hours. He was amazed that it’s wings looked “exactly like a leaf, Mom!” He loved to let it run from one hand to the next like a conveyor belt… while he laughed about the Katydid doing it’s exercises.
Are all boys so easily distracted?
Should I have made him stick with his job and get back to weeding?
I’m really not sure…
But, I was a softie and let him daddle. I remember the fascination with bugs and rocks… Actually I still am a little fascinated… but I if I daddle, there is no one else to come around and finish the job.
